Like the more than $40 Million investment to build the Puerto Maya terminal and surrounding plaza? New investment and new blood in Cozumel. I don't expect anything will ever be overnight, that runs against the Mexican mentality but I do see a lot of money being spent in properties for projects. Some will never happen, this is true, but some will surely happen and that is almost a certainty. Investors are being courted with some favorable terms from the Mexican, Quintana Roo and Cozumel governments. New blood in the hotel business and properties are being upgraded to five star status. More going on than meets the eye.

Cozumel Private initiative welcomes arrival of an aquarium for the island, as it would help diversify tourism that would be an additional attraction for the tourists visiting this destination.

The chair of the board's business coordinator for Cozumel, Demita Delille Cabrera said that Cozumel requires new attractions and the project to build the world's largest aquarium on the island, it sounds quite attractive, as long as it is done under the rules and environmental guidelines.

"Cozumel entrepreneurs are for new investment while respecting environmental regulations, we do not know the project of the largest aquarium in the world thoroughly but from the developing thinking about the benefit of Cozumel without causing ecological problems, then it should be welcomed" he said.

Cozumel acknowledged that the island requires new attractions that allow tourists to take good impression of this fate, but it is also important to care provided ecological and environmental of the island that is often not taken into account these situations.

She noted that Cozumel entrepreneurs are interested in knowing in depth the project therefore expect some rapprochement with investors to be able to issue a broader view of the subject, since it is currently not known in detail this initiative to be developed to side of the Puerta Maya pier.

I have not posted here in awhile and I am sure that this post may be perceived as cynical and possibly provocative !

With regards to this Aquarium, I will believe it when it is open and operating . This is not about doubting the possibility of it coming to fruition but more about never banking on anything in Cozumel ! My experience in Cozumel may be considered limited, compared to others who have lived there for awhile , those that have previously owned property there , or have been visiting or renting there longer than my experiences.

I have come to believe that there are no absolutes or predictabilty when it comes to Cozumel !! ( this is true with most destinations or cities but Cozumel defies rationality ). I do not care how long that you have lived , visited , or rented there . I am sure that many people find some adventure in the unexpected and quite possibly that may have attracted me before I had a large investment there .
Having said that , I believe that Cozumel is still a great tourist destination because of the people , the diving , and the culture . If I could go back 8 or 9 years , I would just continue to visit or possibly find a long term rental .

I have watched Sherri and other long time residents ( who are much wiser and more experienced than me ) attempt to do business there with hopes of benefitting the island and people ---- be slapped down !

As it relates to this aquarium , I will give one recent personal experience . My house is on 30th near the new car ferry road. There had been rumors for several years that a road was going to be cut thru near my house from 30th to the light house on melgar . It would open up warehousing , a car ferry , and possibly a Walmart or a Sam's. Most locals discounted this possiblity because it was a huge block of virgin land that was owned by one individual and they would never subdivide it ! Well about 3 years ago this road was started by Collegio Of Americas . The impossible was about to happen but then they hit an unplanned cenote about 100 yards from completion . This would surely stop everything based on environmental concerns . Even tho it halted construction for some time , that road is now operative for the new car ferry .

As radical as this may sound ---- even the so called experts , long time residents , or long time visitors , can predict or speculate on what might will happen with this Aquarium IMHO !!
I still love Cozumel, the people , the culture , lifestyle , and diving but I would be much happier visiting Cozumel without being a property owner there !

Four or five years ago , this aquarium possibility would have really excited me ( and I have hopes that it will happen ) but I guess that I am more weathered now or more pragmatic !

My Two Cents !!!
